Industrial CCTV should cover more than theft risk. It can support gate monitoring, loading and dispatch review, restricted-zone visibility, incident investigation and selected operational monitoring when cameras are correctly positioned.
Factories and warehouses are larger, more complex and often operate for longer hours than homes or shops. Long distances, dust, heat, outdoor exposure, forklifts and changing layouts all affect camera choice and placement, and this scale is exactly what drives up CCTV installation cost compared with a typical shop or office.
Larger industrial sites often need distributed recorders or network architecture rather than a single centralized box.
A single wide camera may show traffic but not provide enough detail for identification. Consider separate overview and focused views where vehicle movement is critical.
High racks can block camera views. Camera positions should be tested after shelving and storage layouts are finalized. Long aisles may need cameras with appropriate lenses rather than one ultra-wide view.
CCTV can help review movement, incidents and workflow around selected areas, but it should not replace safety systems, machine guarding or formal supervision.
Human detection, line crossing and intrusion zones can be useful at perimeters or restricted areas, especially after hours. Alerts should be tuned to normal site traffic. Since many industrial sites now rely on networked IP cameras, it's also worth reviewing CCTV cybersecurity practices to keep those cameras from becoming an unauthorized-access risk.
Large sites can produce high data volumes. Storage should be calculated from camera count, resolution, bitrate and retention — our footage retention and storage guide walks through those calculations in more detail. Multi-building sites may need distributed recorders or network architecture.
Dust, vibration, heat and outdoor moisture increase maintenance needs. Preventive AMC checks should include camera cleaning, connector inspection, storage health and playback verification.
